rinsgnt โข 7 yr. ago. Richard, in my opinion, is some sort of conceptual feeling or mutual piece of the inner person. Something of nature and balance. He is connected in many cases to the consciouses and moral senses of people. That is why one of the more psychopathic, cold-hearted characters don't recognize Richard.

Richard is the initial canon character in Hotline Miami (1), who is worn by 'Jacket'. The explanation for how he can communicate to the sleeping, dead, or alive is completely unknown to me. I feel that Richard is the basic feeling of "Paranoia", following you around.

โข 9 yr. ago 'Where are we right now?' I always assumed it was just a visual representation of Jacket's subconscious for us, the viewer. If you mean the physical layout of the room, IIRC isn't it just Jacket's apartment? 'Why are we having this conversation?' The dark-room sections are metaphorical.

Richard is the default mask Jacket has access to at the beginning of Hotline Miami. Being that it is the first and only mask available from the beginning, it offers no benefits. Richard wears, or rather is represented by, this mask. A Richard-masked hobo squatting in 50 Blessings' bunker appears.

Richard seemed omniscient, kind of godly, he judged everyone in the room except beard and everyone he judged died (Although including beard, he did say he wasn't so bad or something like that.), so, the idea hit me. Could richard actually be god or the devil.
